Let me preface this by saying my tuner has had some modifications, and I live in a very flat coastal area. Most of the stations are further inland all in one general direction.

The Antennacraft FM6 is exactly the same as the Radio Shack $25 antenna. I have mine mounted on the end of the roof with an eaves mount bracket and 5' pole. I have a transformer hooked to the two connections, and RG6 from there down to my tuner. At the tuner end of the cable there is a slip on connector plugged directly into the tuner, no transformer there.

The tuner is an Onkyo T-4500 with new low loss Murata filters replacing the old high loss filters. This filter mod is a substantial improvement in both selectivity and sensitivity. (Murata 180khz filters in the "wide mode" filter slots, and 150 khz filters in "narrow mode" slots).

I am picking up stations as far away as 120 - 150 miles. There are even three 6000 w stations in the 100-120 mile range I can pick up cleanly.

I pick up more than 60 clean, noise-free stereo stations. Many are in long strings of adjacent channels, yet this tuner has no problem there. In addition to those 60+ stations I pick up some that are noisier that will come in clean in mono. I know some are located at 90 degrees to my antenna in the "null". If I had a rotator I could probably get some of those better, I am sure.

About half of those strong stations are hip-hop or country, but even with that, the other half are jazz, adult contemporary, classic rock, and classical, all stations that I enjoy.
