External Deemphasis Adjustment

Hello Everyone,

I often spend time in Kenya, and have thought of bringing one of my FM tuners there, maybe a Dynaco FM-3 or a Modaferri-modded McIntosh MR71. I assume that the deemphasis setting in relatively recent British colonies is the same as that in the UK. I have little knowledge of how deemphasis changes work, but am aware that in the McIntosh they involve switching a resistor. I understand the change between the US and other scheme(s) to be basically an adjustment in tone. I wonder, in order to make a transition easier and cheaper, is there a way of making the change externally, in the line connection on the way to the preamp? Is there something one can add to the circuit? Forgive my ignorance. Any advice would be appreciated.

David
