Which tuner to get and getting the most from it. Thank God, for the radio!

the main control chip for all your options, is unavailable, again IIRC.

If it were me, I'd be looking for a second working 8000T. And, carefully take it apart and store all the bits, other than the PSU caps.

My main system's tuner is an old simulcast rcvr, rebuilt. With the two AM stages joined together to give audio out to about 13khz. There's a British Studio 12 Stereo FM decoder and large good sounding, audio coupling caps.
It's driven hard into full limiting by a 6 element FM antenna pointed at the main station about 7 miles away past the Eastern side of a big hill about a third of the way there.

Low multipath being the aim. But the gain doesn't hurt given it's a valve front-end.
