What is this reg. going to be used for? I'm guessing a preamp. Single-ended or differential? Current requirements? This circuit is a series regulator. In my experience, shunt regulators, particularly CCS fed active shunt regulators sound better. That said: A shunt reg. for a single-ended circuit will require twice the bias current of the circuit whereas a differential circuit will just require an extra 5mA or so. My phono pre and line stage each have separate shunt reg. for each individual amplification stages. The CCS in series with the B+ effectively isolates each stage from the PS and each other. While the active shunt insures a very low output impedance. For single-ended stages it keeps the AC signal loop isolated within the stage itself. Remember, with single-ended stages the PS is part of the signal path.
