Russ,It appears that they are not working, as long as the tube rectifier is ok. They only operate if the tube shorts, so that the anode-to-cathode resistance is zero. What I'm having a problem with is how slow-startup is maintained with the ss diodes attached (if they are actually working with a good tube rectifier). And how the "sag" of the GZ34 is maintained.
If they are only safety devices, there would be no need for $$$ items. In fact, if the amp suddenly turns on fast --- it's time to look at the rectifier. Right?
