I'm trying to remember, but I think I got my Sony Metal Master in 1990 or 1991. It was a brand new product given to me by a Sony rep.

To say "Also Sony always released to compete with others", is completely incorrect. Sony's list of industry firsts is as long or longer than any other manufacturer. Remember that Sony has always had a hard-core professional line of products, many of which utilized cutting edge technologies developed in-house by Sony. Much of this, of course, filtered down into consumer and semi-professional products.

Having said this, I have a lot of respect for TDK, and to this day I am still a huge fan of their products.
