Well, the ideal capacitor will not have any ESR at all (but real capacitotr will have resistance, inductance,and of cource the capacitance), but in the real world you will want the lowest ESR as possible, but that is when the price come in. Just think of it like having a small resistor in sereies with the ideal cap, the resistor will get hot as more current flows through it to charge and discharge the capacitor, high ripple current capacity capacitor is one sample of low ESR capacitor, or the capacitor that is use in the switching power supply. You should look at digikey catalog and see the difference in capacitor type and price. You can use low ESR cap in your power supply with no problem.
