Help with BK ST 140 amp

I need some help with a BK ST 140 Power amp.

I bought it used about 15 years ago from Chattanooga Valley Audio ( I still mourn Bruce's decision to relocate). The amp, as I bought it was modded with a lot of extra capacitance bypassed with .001 Wondercaps, some new internal wiring (looks like Kimber), New Esoteric binding posts and RCAs, a new, heavy duty power cord and HG plug, and the speaker fuses were defeated. I do not know if there were any circuit mods. The mods were preformed by some "mod-shop", but the printing on their label is now illegible.

It worked beautifully in my system for 3 years or so, until I got something new - that is when I put the BK in the closet. Anyway, the amp in our church sound system died so I dusted off the BK and put it into the system. It worked well for a few weeks, then the sound started to go "fuzzy". We thought it was a wireless mic with a weak battery; that is exactly what it sounded like. But after testing all the mics, then each component in the system, it is clearly the amp.

Here are some words that describe what we are hearing: fuzzy, crackly, distorted, weak, indistinct, unclear, etc. I cannot expect that anyone can diagnose a problem without a hands-on test, but I am hoping that some of my fellow inmates can offer me some suggestions or point me in a logical direction.

Since the sound is nearly the same as a weak mic battery, I am wondering if I have a bad cap(s).

Any help is greatly appreciated. BTW, if it is fixed, it will probably stay in the church system as a return amp or a spare.

Thanks in advance.

Leon
