Hi.IMO, a brandnew one with DivX, HDMI 1080i video up-convertion sells cheaper than fixing your oldie.
If that was your wife's anniversary gift or some memorable presents, you might have no choice but fixing it. Like any vintage collection, they should be preseved as a valuable time piece.
Incidentally, I am waiting to get one affordably: full loaded with all latest multimedia formats, 1080i video u-convertion, multi memory card reader slot, & most important: DVD-audio 192KHz24bit DAC + video 108MHz14bit video DAC. It should be avaiable in retail stores pretty soon.
CD audio media is going if not gone yet. DVD-audio offers uncompressed superb stereo channels sound & IMO, a real sonic competition to the best analogue audio.
