all things being equal which order is best for a 12dB/octave bandpass?

2nd-order high-pass --> 2nd-order low-pass --> speaker

0----- C2 -----+----- L1 -----+-----+
| | |
L2 C1 midrange
| | |
0--------------+--------------+-----+

OR

2nd-order low-pass --> 2nd-order high-pass --> speaker

0----- L1 -----+----- C2 -----+-----+
| | |
C1 L2 midrange
| | |
0--------------+--------------+-----+

I would tend to believe the latter because I imagine that perhaps series caps in the circuit loop could reduce any tank circuit problems, but can't help but believe that it's a hallucination. Anyway, I thought I'd ask people who'd know. TIA.
