I seem to remember this happening on my 971 with several of my silver CDs (production discs) as well. I can't explain it, but it's almost like the bitstream is close to what it should be for an HDCD encoded disc so it momentarily enables it only to find out it really isn't so it goes off again.
I wouldn't worry too much about it, but I wanted to let you know that I've seen it on my unit as well (and there was nothing wrong with it) so it's not possessed or anything! :)
