Hello,
I kinda wanted to restart an earlier thread about the Marantz hum problem. I too have it in my 4270 (with twin 15000uf supply caps) and want to correct it. So if I may answer the questions cliff posed to the other fellow:1)it's a 60hz hum
2)it's the same on both channels
3)it rises and falls with volume
4)it does NOT change after warmup or a good workout
5)it does NOT change with everything disconnected but speakersAnd I'll add a few answers to potential questions:
1)it is the same in all functions
2)have tried switching polarity of the power plug (original) with no change in hum
3)transformer bolts are good and tight
4)I have the Marantz driving electrostatic hybrid speakers, but tried the tests with both those and some conventional speakers, same results. So, what do you's think? I can get access to a 'scope, but will need instructions for testing. I also do have a full schematic.
Lastly, would there be any worthwhile benefit to increasing the capacitance of the supply caps? Also, I read a post about using many smaller caps instead of one large one, but could not find an explanation as to why this would be better/beneficial. Any help would be appreciated. This hum is the only thing about my system that bothers me, at the moment;).
Thanks!
