The 45 tube is a power triode in the same class of tubes as the more powerful 2a3 and 300B. This is a tube that is no longer being made.The 45 specs at 2.5 volts and 1.5 amps. In single ended amps, one 45 as the output tube is good for 2 watts. Oh, but how glorious those 2 watts can be.
This is the favorite tube of many well-respected tube authority figures. Count Gordon of Wavelength Audio among just one....Wavelength Audio, Bottlehead, Sun Audio, and now I hear George Wright are some of the commercial companies producing a 45 amp.
Obviously, with 2 watts, careful matching with high efficiency speakers is a must.
