I don 't have treatment on my ceiling. 2' wide panels seem to work fine for me for first reflections on the wall, provided the reflection axis is centred in the panel. To do that with panels on the ceiling, you would need to align an axis of the panel along the line of the reflection points on the ceiling. If you place the sides of the panels parallel to the walls, then the line of the reflection points is going to run diagonally across the panel and you're going to have one point closer to one side and another point closer to the other side of the panel. That way you may not end up with enough lateral cover and you may need to use additional panels to give a bit more lateral cover.
The only way I know how to test is by listening to the results. Does it sound better to you with the panels there? If yes, then are you happy with the sound? If yes, then run with that unless you want more treatment for some reason in which case experiment with adding a bit more treatment to cover a wider area of the ceiling.
