It's true that spacing a porous absorber farther from the wall extends its absorption to lower frequencies. And that may be true to some extent in corners too. But with corner absorption the main point is to be in the corner. I've gotten great results with two foot wide absorbers pushed right into the corner. One of these days I plan to test exactly what you're asking, but I haven't gotten around to that yet.
