Re: I disagree with Roger Sanders' claim

Just a caution on using multiple inputs/outputs for testing; i.e. using a CD player with 2 outputs and conecting two ICs to be compared to two inputs of the preamp to facilitate quick and easy switching. I relied upon this technique for many comparisons, and when it came testing different cables, i.e. products form different manufacturers, I'd say it was quite reliable.

However I work closely with a cable designer friend who has come to trust my evaluations of his product and during a round of testing that involved incremental changes for a newer version of the interconnect I began to arrive at contradictory results, i.e. in one session I'd find I preferred one variant, in a repeated session I'd prefer the other.

Once I reported this to my friend he repeated a claim that he'd experienced sonic differences attributed only to the usage of diffferent inputs on his preamp. This was one of those things where we politely disagree.

Anyway I decided to eliminate the use of multiple inputs/outputs and instead went with arduous manual switching ensuring the usage of exact connection for comparisons. That sovled the apparent paradox and consistency returned to my evaluations ... It was one of those need to experience it to believe it things for me!
