Hi,'In my own area, most feeders and many transformers are on telephone poles and IMO they are far more vulnerable to outages. This is often the result of wind storms and late winter storms when heavy wet snow causes tree limbs to fall off or entire trees to be uprooted taking down overhead powerlines with them. I had a 2 day outage 5 years ago and numerous complaints led to a program of continual tree trimming (I would have preferred replacement with underground feeders instead.)'
Sounds like my experience when I lived in a suburb of Seattle. We had an outage whenever the wind blew the wrong way, and when it snowed you could count on one (sometimes lasting for days).
I have been in the Scottsdale area 2 years, and in spite of frequent storms that are a lot more severe than Seattle we have not lost power a single time! In fact, the lights have never flickered. Of course, with the AC running in 100+ temps (May-September) the lights do dim every 20 minutes but that is another story.
What I am most concerned about is the extreme amount of lightning which is very impressive. Right now, I unplug hifi, home theater and computer equipment whenever a storm threatens (in this season daily). UPS would eliminate that headache.
Thanks again, if you do have another recommendation please let me know.
Regards,
Lynn
