Re: Do you know how to determine the panel resonances??

Hey there Rob..how's it goin?

All panels will have natural resonances, depending on the panel material properties and dimensions. If the resonances fall within the range of the driver, then one must either:

A. Put some "fluffy stuff" on the wall to reduce the amount of acoustic energy that can get to the panel at the frequencies that the panel resonates.

B. Stiffen the panel to raise it's resonance frequencies. The fluffy stuff gets better at absorbing the sound at higher frequencies, and you can take the panel resonances out of the woof band.

C. Cross brace from one side to another. Major stiffener..

Using all three, I have been able to run a ttable on top of a cab with a 15" PAS driver at 300 watts, no feedback. I was amazed at how little vibe occurred on the walls (3/4 ply) once the cross braces were in. (note that this was with the cab on a concrete floor. Doing this on a suspended wood floor will transmit the floor vibes to the ttable.)

Cheers, John
