You have not answered the question: can we generalise that to the "scientific method" as generally practiced in audio is junk?> Inasmuch, however, as there is no PhD. in audio, all these soi-disant experts come from without the field.
A PhD is a research qualification and so you do not get a PhD in a subject as you would with a first degree. You get a PhD for successfully addressing a research problem. There are lots of researchers both with and without PhDs addressing research problems related to audio.
