I'm trying to re - create that 50's jazz-drum sound. In paticular the drum sound on Dave Brubeck's Time Out on an original mono Columbia 6 - eye.I'm assuming they used all tube electronics and Telefunken U-47 mics in the studio. Does anyone know what tape machines Columbia used back then? Ampex 300's at 15 ips? The drums at the end of " Everybody's Jumpin'" are a great example of what I'm trying to get. I'm sure 3/4 of the inmates have this track. Do you think it'd be possible to get any where near this kinda sound with a U -47 into tube mic pre - amps, running into an Apple @ 24bit/192Khz?... Any input much appreciated.
