This is the rackmount guitar effects processor, as I recall there is an instrument input on the front which "normalizes" through the rear input
meaning there is contact internal within the jack, pluging into the back lifts the front input. I also believe this has a external effects loop on the back tip ring sleve type jack.This unit used pretty sleazey PC mounted jacks, first notice if the problem goes away if you use the rear input, excercise the jacks, they also liked to have poor solder joints to the jacks, reheat and reflow them. good luck.
