RE: Apple: Audiophile Friend or Foe? By Alan Sircom

I kind of agree, but I guess in a different way....

They definitely stretch the marketing point a bit far. It makes me mad that they tout it all as great and innovative home entertainment integrated foundation products that are of super high quality. They fall way down where the high quality is concerned: and I think, that even non-audiophiles are frustrated by this.

What is the weltaunschaung of the macmini server, but a home entertainment, media delivery system in one small box? So, why doesn't it have a decent BluRay capable disc drive, a full size DVI port, and a SPDIF rca jack, Netflix/Pandora capable, with two 2TB hds? Charge up to $1000 more? A bit steep, - but I'd be in... At $2000 they'd sell a billion, at $1500, they'd sell 3 billion...

What I found most frustrating is that they get half way there, and then fall down badly. If they wanted to, they could go for it, charge more, and people would buy it: (consumers already have with some of their ideas, like Apple TV).

Where people had paid to see inside,
For entertainment they watch his body twist
Behind his eyes he says, 'I still exist.'"
