I don't know if it's so much "knowledge" (there's a lot of it that I've disagreed with), but there are more and more audio people who strike me as having a totally different concept on how audio and music should sound, relative to the "high fidelity" ideal of the past. (The main one is that "loud" is good, and nothing else matters.) And although I think the digitization of audio has been the root cause, I don't think this genie can be put back in the bottle, because I think the general perception of music (and what constitutes quality music) has also changed, to where the old "artistic standard" is in danger of being forgotten.
