RE: Jitter-free sound

No, that is probably tape hiss. I have a lot of older recordings with this.

What I am talking about is sibilance that rides on top of the music, masking some of the HF detail. This is produced by non-optimum designs in preamps and amps, particularly when op-amps are used. It has the effect of compression and noise addition. It cannot be heard unless music is playing. Its a type of distortion. I'll be demonstrating a new preamp technology at THE Show during CES that eliminates most of this. It's an eye-opener.
