One manufacturer to come to the realization that the small compact player [could] be used for serious audio. Its not that much of a leap.
Why do computers/laptops have digital out? How many are actually being used? probably less than 5%, if even that much, how about CDP'ers of old [just normal consumer models] how many actually were hooked up to DAC's? ....The fact is digital-out in itself is a novelty, [BUT] its standard on any device that [could] be used for serious listening. Once someone sees the MP3 player as more than a toy for teens, it will have digital out.
As for Wi-Fi, I suspect its going to be standard on more and more electronics, even appliances...pretty soon everything and anything will have internet connection.
