I went through this process a few years ago.
The first thing to understand is that there are only a few actual OEM boards that go into these enclosures. These are combined with a fancy enclosure and sold as a branded item.
At the time, I was looking for USB and Firewire 800 in one box, one of the Oxford chips was purported to be the best. I ended going with a Macally enclosure and a Seagate HDD (PHR-100ACB and 120GB Segate). I added an Adaptec Firewire 800 controller to my computer.
So my advice is to determine the configuration you want and find out what is a good chipset. From there, pick the best one with that chipset based on price, looks, whatever.
