spare laptop question, Windows 8.1 or Linux? Any windows experts here?

Hello all, sorry to trouble you all. Keep in mind I have been using Linux full time since around the year 2000, but after a failed attempt to upgrade my brothers machine who insists on windows I have a spare copy of windows 8.1. I have the disk which was sent by Microsoft, along with a key.

I had it installed on a separate hard drive in a machine I use daily but I think that it is not worth it as I never use the copy. I found it confusing, but I thought I would try it with audio on a spare laptop I have collecting dust, this would be a dedicated machine and integrated into my stereo rack.

I read the system requirements it says 1gb of ram for 32 bit and 2gb of ram for 64bit. Taking a look at the specs at the link below, what would work better?

Or I am thinking just forget it and install Tiny linux or something like that?

Any advice on windows would be appreciated. I think I'll use Foobar2000 as I like that music player, just not sure if it is worth the timely install.
