i have generally preferred 'native mode', where available, both in cplay, and with my PS Audio Perfect Wave DAC. That said, I like the sound of cmp/cplay, and it runs on a dedicated pc, using many of the bios tweeks that cics recommended, and minlogin.
I am having good results from my vortexbox connected via an M2Tech Hifiace 2 into my Lynx Hilo DAC, and am wondering whether an audiophile vortexxbox, with the sotm card, a la small green computers, would sound better than the xp box..... (The Hilo is not sufficiently USBAudio 2.0 compliant to work straight out of the v-box (even with Andrew's very thorough and thoughtful help).
