Couple of points:1) Rip with EAC to WAV, then use the FLAC tool FLAC Frontend to convert WAV to FLAC - pretty easy ...

FLAC: http://flac.sourceforge.net/2) More difficult, current version of foobar2000 (0.9) does not support the ASIO output plug-in any more ... May want to condifer other player like Winamp ...
3) So many choices ... I would look for a used unit (2-3 years old) for ~$600-700, beyond that returns start to deminish quickly ... Would give Musical Fidelity a look.
