I am not so sure that the Callisto linestage circuit is in fact a balanced one. It is no trick for a
manufacturer to provide balanced outputs even when the product does not contain a balanced
circuit. However, in such a case one usually finds that the single-ended outputs sound no
different from or even better than the balanced ones, especially when an added active buffer
stage is used to derive the balanced outputs. This is a factor seldom accounted for by reviewers,
who usually don't know enough to ask the question, and manufacturers will seldom volunteer the
pertinent information, because they want you to assume that their products are "balanced" just
because they have balanced outputs.
