I have only a couple of the straight 6336 (metal plate) tubes. I suspect that since they draw less filament current, they run the cathodes cooler, and can not source as much peak current (smaller cloud of electrons available) as the A or B versions. This will limit their ability to drive low impedance speakers. I don't think they are as robust as the A or B versions. As far as I can tell the B version only has a slightly larger glass envelope which should help with heat dissipation.

I would say the 6336A/B tubes sound a bit more relaxed than the 6AS7.

I think the arc overs happen until the tubes has been hot long enough for the structure to get physically "in place". Tapping on the tubes when they are hot seems to speed up the settling in process.
