You could operate the MA-1 with about 2-4 db of negative feedback. Of course we all hope to operate our amps without any, but some speakers are designed for an amp that uses some. 2 db (the amount the the M-60 uses) would go a long way in the MA-1 towards linearizing the frequency response, without doing serious damage at all to the sound.The values used would be the same as are in the M-60 right now.
I didn't know that the bass transformer was not rolled off past the crossover point. Rolling it off would help to linearize the impedance of the speaker quite a lot! Work we have done here suggests that it is almost impossible to get two transformer windings to do the same work when they are paralleled; they tend to fight each other a little bit. If it is true that the bass winding is not rolled off then there is yet some optimization to do!
