Thank you for your kind words. I admit I was quite surprised to find the transformer was not evil as I'd always thought. I do believe the Zobel network is the magic trick. I can't imagine better performance than the Jensen transformers. They really are transparent and measure all too well. (Add the usual audiophile speak to describe the performance here.)The thought of different tubes is fun. I don't care for the 6SL7's limited bandwidth. The 417 is probably a great choice, but it's got a bit too much gain. The .5 volt van den Hul Frog output, with the 10:1 transformer and the CV4024 is just about perfect.
I tried a Shelter 901 for a couple of weeks. The Frog was better at retrieving detail. This was especially noticeable with female vocals.
