Re: Noisy phono section with MP3

Thanks for your reply Mark.
I suspect that my interconnects may be the problem. The cables are a temporary set up. The table has a jumper box which connects a pair of lemo connectors from the T3 tonearm to single ended. I am using a pair of "Monster Cable interlink Refference A" cables to sinlge ended adapters on the MP3. This setup was used by the previous owner with his Mark Levinson preamp with no problem. I know the quality of these cables is lacking and would like to make a ballanced cable directly form the lemo to the XLR conector on my MP3. Any suggestions of cable and construction?

My tubes are a combination of JAN Phillips 12at7wc's in all but the rear most positions of the phono section. The rear two are a pair of Mullard CV 4024's purchased from Upscale Audio (not on Kevins recomendation). These tubes I had on hand and have been tested for noise and rated "A" by Kevin.

The ground of the table is a question. The Goldmund has a seperate control unit for the T3 arm which has the ground jumper. I have tried this on several positions but have not noted any big differences. My MP3 does not have the ground bus on the rear of the Preamp. Where on the MP3 is it best to attach this ground cable or am I better just to make up the ballanced phono connectors?

The Goldmund is soon to be replaced by a Nouvelle Platine with a Moerch DP 6 and a Koetsu Rosewood. I have yet to recieve the new blue wand I need to best match this cartridge and arm but it should be arriving soon. It came with a Grado cable (5 pin DIN to single ended) but again I would like to make a ballanced cable. I have ordered a ClearAudio 5 pin DIN plug and have the 3 pin XLR's all I need is the cable and recipe to make the best connection. I have seen your ballanced diagram on the website but am waiting to find the best sollution before making these up.

Many thanks for your help

Keith
