Re: Double Cascode Current Results

Barry,

I guess what I am saying is that increasing the current through the cascode gain stage seems to have increased the speed and resolution of the amp. I suppose it is fair to say that when I added the HEXFET SLCF to my amps a year or two ago, the results could be described as an increase in resolution and speed. Also the no-cascode seems to increase resolution and speed, so they are all going in the same direction.

It is more than halving (adding a second resistor in parallel) the resistor value of the current set resistor in the CCS, you also need to halve the value of the plate resistors at the top of the cascode.

Ralph obviously has more experience with his cascode gain stage circuit that any of us. So there is a reason the current and resistor values are what they are in that circuit. Because of this I highly recommend that if you want to experiment with this, that you simply jumper equal value and equal wattage resistors in parallel with the stock resistors. This way you can easily cut out the added resistors to return the amp back to stock.

Enjoy, Paul Speltz
