Nothing at all is wrong with the cascode. In fact, the more I read and increase my understanding of tube circuits, the better it seems, especially in the context of the dual-differential amplifier. There's little else one can do to a dual-diff amp topology to maximize gain and increase bandwidth, since other topologies, e.g., mu-follower and SRPP, incorporate a current source function on the plate side of the circuit that might be antagonistic with proper operation of well-conceived dual-diff amps, such as the Atma input circuit. BUT the cost of the cascode is a relatively high output Z which necessitates use of a cathode-follower or some other impedance-lowering stage or device between the cascoded stage and the driven output tubes. So, I'm asking myself: if Ralph's new design has eliminated the CF, what else could he have done to reduce output Z of the driver stage? OK, so when do you think we peons will know the answer?
