The cathode-followers have a plate to cathode voltage drop that is near to or may exceed that which is recommended for 6SN7s that don't bear the GTA or GTB designation (i.e., >275V), like the Mullards you are using. (This is true for MA2; I don't know about MA1.) You might try a GTA or GTB type in that application, but OTOH, gurus have told me that the uprating of the max plate voltage for GTA and GTB types vs GTs (and the GTY) was a product of the tube "horsepower" race that was going on in the early 50s. In other words, the GT can take just as much voltage as can the GTAs and GTBs, in that person's opinion. Nevertheless, you might try a GTA or GTB as a CF to see if you get a more relaxed, extended hf response. Also, I agree with the inference of Mark's posting; it's a matter of taste, and to some people it's a matter of religion.
