It may not help you, but turmeric has significantly reduced my back pain for the last twelve years. Before taking it I had periodic bouts of sciatica, I haven't had one since. I used to take Vicodin for that, haven't used it since starting on turmeric. It's not a pain reliever, it's an anti-inflammatory supplement. You need to take it every day, just like a vitamin. It takes a few weeks to build up in your system. I still get a sore back, but when I do it lasts a day or two, not a week or two.
