I love the sound of Altec's but you can't simply hook up a 30 or 40 year old set of Altec speakers and expect them to perform as new without some maintenance. By now, the crossover caps will probably need a refreshing and any L-pads will need a good cleaning.
If your looking at Valencia's, keep an eye out for HeathKit AS101 models as well. They were kits that used Valencia drivers in a much nicer cabinet. It's what I use.
