Sticking two drivers on a flat plate is not a gonna time align your
drivers

What is the acoustic center of each driver?

Your gonna have better luck with a 24db per octave slope

If you dont have the equipment to measure results then try mounting
one of the drivers so you can move it foward or back in relation
to the other mounted driver and experiment with that and phase
