I'm with Rich. A room acoustics problem will be more more apparent above a certain SPL level. I had a similar situation with my own DIY tratrix/Lowther system and it basically solved itself as I added more furniture and bookcases to my living room. And you may be listening louder than you did with your Lowther set-up.
