Dave JT: Interesting to note that you favour the Apodizing Fast filter as preferred by Kal in Stereophile review but do not agree no difference in sound with XLR compared to normal RCA analogue outs. I do not see how there can be any difference, only increased volume with XLR. I will give a further burn-in period before changing the filter. I do not expect my 5400ES to last 30 years like my previous Marantz CD94 still going well with new owner , or my friends equivalent Philips 960 25 years , only repairs required on both players has been new belts. The 205 is improving but not yet as good as my 5400ES which is far more relaxing to listen to, the 205 will give me a headache, if its no better with change of filter it will be going into the Classifieds.I do not like the way the 205 operates the Sony is far better like most other CD players.
