New high resolution SACD releases, players and technology.

Just like Christine Tham............

...I was trying to resist posting....until today. :)

Here is a true story and please be welcome to draw your own conclusions about it.

I visited Mike Lavigne a while ago. The greatest guy that he is, he let me record several cuts from his AMAZING vinyl setup. I did that with my highly upgraded Pioneer CD recorder (an older machine). Regardless of how much work I have put into it, it still remains the good old 44.1/16 – Redbook.

So, one of the cuts I've recorded was the first track of Ray Brown's Trio "Soular Energy" (this album is one of my all times favorites). I have the original Soular Energy CD, SACD, DAD (96/24) and DVD-A (192/24). Although I have always preferred the DVD-A version, the 44.1/16 direct recording from Mike’s Rockport Sirius/Colibri/DartZeel setup sounds so much better than ALL of the rest that is scary! I am talking about night and day!

So, here you have it -DSD vs Hi-Res PCM vs Rockport Sirius recorded on Redbook :)

Believe me when I say - the format has nothing to do with the end result, it is all implementation which is limited to the mastering process only.

If Mike approves, I can send you a CD-R copy of the recording I made from the Rockport. I still owe him one too.

Regards,
Alex
