For my part, I just do not hear the great superiority of vinyl. I do hear a lot more noise and distortion though. I guess, for me, that just overshadows any superiority that may be there. And even when I do hear a difference between vinyl and digital (redbood or hi-res) I always have to ask myself if it is actually better or just another distotrion. One step further, I ask if I am willing to endure the drawbacks of vinyl to continue hearing that difference. With the pop/rock music I prefer, the answer is always a resounding "NO".And I agree fully on the Multi-channel aspect available from Hi-res. I know it goes against the grain of many, but I'm in it for the MC capability.
