It's often difficult to find the best placement for speakers in a listening room, so I can understand your attraction to headphones. However, I've always been fortunate to buy houses with good listening rooms. In fact, that's one of the criteria I look for when buying a home. I think high ceilings are important and my current home has a slanted ceiling that goes from 8-feet at the rear end to 14-feet at the front end of my listening room. Additionally, I have my speakers set up for ultra near-field listening, which provides an enormous soundstage and simply holographic imaging. I also now use Magnepan planar speakers, which have become my all time favorites. In fact, they sound very similar to my STAX headphones. At any rate, I still prefer listening to speakers, but I also love my new STAX headphones.
