I've terminated many headphone cables, both stock and DIY builds, and find an inexpensive Neutrik NP3X-B 6.3mm stereo phone cable provides good synergy with a stock Sennheiser HD 600 headphone cable (HD 650 headphone cable). More lively sounding than the stock molded plug without affecting the tonality, and I prefer it to a more expensive Furutech plug I tried with it, as it better serves a more problematic pair of Bowers & Wilkins P7 headphones that I find suffers from a "shouty" midrange depending on upstream gear, so much so that I opted for a tube headphone amplifier for a possible sonic solution, that helped to provide in addition to other upstream tweaks. The stock Sennheiser HD 600 headphone cable is a litz wire design that does not require anything more than pre-tinning the conductors in order to melt away the enamel dielectric, so it's an easy cable to re-terminate if one is experienced with soldering fine wires to more bulky audio connectors that require a careful strain relief approach.
