And I didn't care for it with all headphones. The high frequencies can sound a bit strident but its is a very good amp other than some occasional high frequency hardness.
I am a big fan of Schiit products and use a full stack of their gear for every day listening (Wyrd: USB decrapper, Modi Multibit: DAC, Loki: Tone Controls, Lyr 2: headphone amp). All of that stuff feeds a set of HiFI Man HE-400S headphones.
The HiFi Man HE-400S headphones sounded hard in the upper frequencies with the Magni 2 but sound wonderful with the Lyr 2. I have tried three different set of tubes with the Lyr 2 and all of them sound great...no high frequency issues at all.
I have also tried other headphones with the Magni 2 and the original Sennheiser Momentum was easier on the ear. I also tried the Sennheiser HD-580 but their 300 ohm impedance wasn't a good match with the Magni 2. The Grado SR-60 was a good match and didn't have hard high frequency issues. Given all of those, I suppose that headphones with better high frequency resolution will not be a good match with earlier Magni models.
I have read in several places, including here, that the Magni 3 had fixed all of the issues with the prior Magni models. The Magni has always been a ridiculous good value for the money but the Magni 3 seems to be even more absurdly good. A great little amp.
Good luck with it,
Ed
