My first DIY project was the Bottlehead Crack, with the Speedball upgrade, and a few boutique mods.

Be sure you are using the headphones that match well with this amp, and you will be happy.

Great project to start with, you only need a few hand tools (screwdriver, pliers, wire cutters) and some sort of soldering iron. The fancy solder stations are nice, but not required for this project if you are just trying out DIY. The wood pieces can be assembled with just white glue and some masking tape, and finished with some sandpaper, and one step finish.

Of course you can take it as far as your creativity wants to also. Have a look at the bottlehead forums for some ideas.

Sonically, with the recommended headphones used, this is a terrific unit, especially with the Speedball upgrade.
