I hope you will put the PCM stereo in the DVD-V area for playability on all DVD players rather than space considerations.
It doesn't matter which side of our products contains the 96 kHz/24-bit PCM stereo tracks, ALL DVD players can access it...even DVD-Video players. The rate on almost all DVDs is 448 kbps or 10% of that used for 96/24 PCM
The comparison that I did was for 2-channel only...since I know that Teresa listens only to the stereo tracks. She asked why I didn't tie the video with the stereo PCM track..my response didn't address 5.1 surround. If DD 640kbps is not in the DVD-V spec then why was it introduced and where is it used?
It is the maximum rate allowed by the DVD-VIdeo specification but is avoided for the reason I mentioned. On iTrax.com...
I believe that packaged goods, especially premium products like those that we produce will exist for a long time...however, the move to better fidelity and multichannel will migrate to downloaded files on servers. These servers will be in your media room, in your car and handheld.Any plans to move up to 192/24 recordings? 192/24 tends to sound more natural than 96/24.
I don't find that 192 kHz/24-bits provides any improvement in fidelity or "naturalness" than 96 kHz/24-bits, if the recording process is done carefully and with state-of-the-art equipment. Given the production tools and processes AND most importantly the consumer formats for surround sound, the best option is 96 kHz/24-bit. When the pipe opens up further...I'll take another listen.
