John Atkinson's review of the Ayre QX-5 Twenty

According to the review, the QX-5 was connected to an ethernet router and to an Aurender N10 via UBS, but the sound had more authority via the network than USB. Does that imply the Aurender N10 was not involved in playing CD files over the network?

I've studied this review, because I expect to be setting up a QX-5 next week to use with my KX-5, and need all the help I can find. I'm less interested in streaming than building library of files. I've noticed that DSD files downloaded from Acoustic Sounds sound a bit better than FLAC files I rip when played on the Sony HAP-Z1ES. Do I need something like an Aurender? I stream Tidal using an Oppo 105; the Oppo may be able to access the QX-5 DAC via coaxial or optical.
